after the enjoyable adventure that Chel, Twinkle, and I had at Abra and Vigan

and after my joyful reunion with my Philies friends…I looked forward to my next guitar session once again.

This time though, it gave me quite a headache and restless nights…

Sensei Edu (my awesome guitar player teacher) taught me some more music theories and I confidently said “Alright, let’s go!”

He further informed me that he was going to teach me how the chords are form and created. I got excited because this was the main reason why i enrolled myself for guitar lessons - aside from reading notes.

he gave me a little refresher regarding the musical notes and the natural scale…

HOWEVER…

by the time he completely plunged into teaching me those chord roots…I secretly gave out a heavy sigh and started to feel a vein in my forehead…I didn’t realize i was thinking long and hard just to understand it and Sensei just noticed it when I threw my ‘calming magnetic bracelet’ on my bag.

I admitted i was getting frustrated but i assured him i won’t give up. so we went on with the lesson…there were moments that the clouds were getting clearer but it was still confusing…

and then i went home feeling extremely nuts about the previous session…music studies sure is hard! though i was able to relax my head when me and my cousins played continuous games at Timezone, i still couldn’t stop trying to figure it out in my head…

i miss this hard-thinking that I experienced when I was in college…it made me feel that I revive my brains once in a while. I’ve already committed to this and I won’t stop until i’m good enough!

hehehe…

i’m so blank…

i knew it…

my brain would be so ’sabaw’ today which makes it so difficult to start a five-page paper. Once in a while - if I don’t have anything to write (mind you, i haven’t written a single word yet) - i would go to google and drool over those DSLRs. I’m still trying to be the ‘artist’ that I want to be that’s why ifever I will not be a musician, I guess I’ll take photography instead.

Aaaaaaarrghh! sounds desperate ne? I mean, i love photos, i appreciate great photos that’s why i would love to take great photos as well. But in the meantime, i’ll concentrate on my guitar lessons, i’m learning how to read the notes and I’m slowly learning, throwing away the things I’ve learned by myself when I started playing guitar.

I don’t even know if  i have the artistic sense…that’s why i kept saying over and over again that i’ll challenge my crappy Aiptek camera to produce great photos, without editing or paintbrushing! I’ll do that for now and try to maneuver the settings of the damn thing. i looked at some of the photos and i think some of them esp. nature photos, turned out pretty good. I need a miracle…

really…at this point in my life, i admit i’m just working for the money to be able to carry out my so-called ‘artistic ambitions’ and i’m still hoping that i could meet the people who can motivate me to bring out that ‘artistic sense’ and be the real dork that i only show to a few people. hehehe…i really need to go back to the paper.

Music Weekend: Of Francis M. and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

So many things related to music have happened during the last weekend. A sad moment for the entire country especially for those who are attached to the development of Pinoy rap.
On the 6th of March of this year 2009, Mr. Francis Magalona passed away.

It was a sudden news since I have the impression that he was doing good with his treatments against leukemia. It brought shock to the public and his death was such a waste because he is the legend of Pinoy Rap. I was watching his tribute show in Eat Bulaga and suddenly felt nostalgic when an old video of Francis M. played showing his live performance of “Mga Kababayan Ko.” His buzzed haircut and his colorful Muslim-inspired clothing were really really nostalgic. The song itself reminded me so much of my childhood having last-song-syndrome when I was five years old. Before Philippine Nationalism was even identified with Manny Pacquiao, the likes of Francis M. instilled that pride of being Filipino through his infectious easy-to-remember songs.
Would it take a long time for another musician like Francis M. to have that huge influence to incorporate Philippine Nationalism in trends, music, and in the over-all Philippine pop culture?

Rest in Peace Master Rapper!

Francis Magalona: 1964-2009

On the lighter and happier side of life.

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus have finally arrived in the Philippines!!!!

AND.

I.WAS.THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hyperventilating mode once again, by the time each of member of the band entered the stage situated in the middle of the activity center… I was in heaven!

Since last year of May I’ve already been hooked by their sound and was desperately praying that they visit the Philippines and perform. Voila! After almost a year they will have consecutive shows in Ayala Malls! I’ve been waiting for this band to come and I really could not afford to miss their show. So I immediately grabbed the chance to snag a seat for their Glorietta stint! Yeah, Yeah…I have to admit…I have a huge huge huge crush on Ronnie Winter (the vox) and to finally see him in the flesh to sing and to SCREAM…it was heaven all over again!

Man…by the time they entered the stage Ronnie was wearing that huge white flashy sunglasses that I’ve seen him wearing during his interviews for Warp Tour. I was a bit disappointed because I couldn’t see his face but his voice was in good condition when he opened the first track of the gig, their latest single “You Better Pray.” The whole band sounds great live! The GUITARS (awww…I really think Duke is so hugely freaking adorable! and Joey is a hottie!), the DRUMMING! (wohoo Jon! you adorable you! you kick ass playing that ensemble!), and Ronnie’s screams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn’t contain my own insanity, as I went nuts when I heard him screaming on the first song!

The thing is, when they have released their new album there aren’t so much screaming like what they had on “Don’t You Fake It.” Maybe because since they’ve decided to change a bit in terms of their music or maybe Ronnie’s health had an influence on the decrease of the screaming parts. That’s why I wasn’t kind of expecting that he will scream!

Oh boy did he scream…A LOT! Everytime he screamed I will either shrieked or be open-mouthed!
MR. WINTER YOUR SCREAMS ARE SOLID & BEAUTIFUL!

It was pure bliss hearing Ronnie scream live! With the whole band in front of me - probably around 15-20 feet away from the stage - my weakening eyes strived to see all of them clearly but my ears did not fail to give me a smooth reception of Ronnie’s screams despite of the teenagers shrieking around me. Ronnie Winter’s screams are pure audio orgasm!

Well, another aspect which made me going nuts during the entire gig…Ronnie is really absolutely HOT. When he took off his sunglasses, I was just staring at him with my mouth hanging open! The long hair is just the way I’ve seen it on YouTube - just a bit darker - beautifully waved and shiny even from afar. The way he held the mic and of course…again…his screams are total HOTNESS! He was absolutely good looking!

Enough of the visual candy….let’s proceed to the performance itself.

They have a new guitarist - although I’m not sure if he is just a tour guitarist or a permanent replacement of Elias - named Matt. I swear he looks like Jack Black! Even the way he played the guitar, it was as manic and awesome like Tenacious D.! He was funny and entertained the crowd during short breaks and of course, showing off his bad-ass guitar skills! Matt seem to blend well together with the band.

As I’ve mentioned, the whole band played really great live! The way the music should sound like, the details of the guitars, I can actually hear them and it sound so good! Ronnie’s voice on the opening track was solid however as the show went on, he started to decline a bit on the higher notes. He moved a lot so I guess, the tiredness was sinking in and he was grasping for breath. I’m not exactly sure regarding the bronchitis he had before - if it has any after effects after the operation - but I was a bit agitated when he was consistently clutching his chest everytime he screams.

I was expecting for The Grim Goodbye to be played but since they are in the Philippines, they prioritized the songs which gained popularity. I really wanted Grim Goodbye and hopefully when they come back here, they can do a one-time full length concert with Grim Goodbye on it!
Over-all….

After all those months of obsessing over Grim Goodbye and the rest of RJA’s songs, I finally get to experience the band themselves! Hopefully, I am really praying that when they come back here they can play Grim Goodbye so I can hear that beautiful scream of Ronnie: “I feel something deep inside me…i feel deep insiiiiiidddeeee!!!!!”

I am satisfied. SO.MUCH. It has been years ever since I felt freedom since I’m the most 100 percent happy and free when I attend a gig.

and I’m proud to say:

I’m not just a fan of THE REDJUMPSUIT APPARATUS…I’m also a huge fangirl of Ronnie Winter’s SCREAMS!!!!

Take care guys! See you when you come back!

p.s.: Please play Grim Goodbye!

my new baby is RED! —-> is my YM stat msg for today.

RED…for….RED GUITAR!!!! harharhar! Yup! I bought a new one! The first guitar i ever got was from my dad who bought it as a christmas present when i was 12 and its pretty fucked-up already but i don’t want to give it or to throw it away…we have so many memories together! as well as the old Fender Stratocaster that my Uncle Althon and Uncle Joey gave to me when i was in my 3rd yr. in highschool, i also don’t want to give it up!i just have this certain attachment to things that were given to me…

Its gorgeous! Brandname is Davis (which i never heard of) and its an acoustic guitar with pick-up! The guys from the store told me the finishing on the front is fiber glass (i dont know if its true because i cant’ discern a fiber glass but it looks so gorgeous!) and most importantly, it is RED! hahaha! when i went home i was pretty anxious about my mom’s reaction because i spent my money but i guess she was a bit tongue-tied when she saw how happy i was. I told her that buying the guitar felt like I just gave birth! It hurts for my ATM but at the same time, it was the most fulfilling purchase i’ve ever done!

moving on, i’m just taking a break from a paper (the usual) and i’m back updating my fiction again! wohoo! well…mainly because its going to end, that’s why…i can brag that i have an ‘ample’ amount of readers! hehehehe (shout outs to the aibakaland members!)

There are so many good movies this time! I’ve recently watched Benjamin Button and it was superb! Cinematography, make-up, acting, Brad and Cate! All thumbs up! It is really good…and I’m looking forward to watch YesMan (i might be able to get some inspiration) and UnderWorld and Bedtime Stories.

Its really a shame that i have a job as a writer but when i scanned my old blog entries and even my fics, there were a lot of tenses errors!!!! hahahaaha! i really need to sharpen it…

that’s it… ARASHI: i’m hooked

twilight part 3… the G4 outtake

Posted on December 1, 2008 by jevay.

okay, seriously…the hype is getting boring and lame already.

I’m excited for this third part, not because of twilight, but because I saw my dearest Phillies from IBM! God, how i missed them so much! Of course the movie did not escape from Gelo’s ultra-sharp criticisms and he thought Emmett is hot!

We missed one part of the gang, Avie, who did not make it but promised us a part 2 of the reunion! (whoopie!)

Oh..the movie?…well, it gets more hilarious when you watch it and Bella’s head shaking and excessive stuttering is something I just had to ignore. Though the nose covering from Edward is still an off-thing, I’m still loyal to him (hehehe). Its nice to laugh at the movie with a new set of people because you get complete different reactions from the last time you watched it.

Mycs! please do upload the pics! Trish! we share the sentiments with regards to the movie. Pat! we’re up for another drinking session! Gelo! BELAT! Avie! See you next time!

Twilight part 2, the Gateway episode

Posted on November 26, 2008 by jevay.
Categories: Uncategorized.

okay…so I’ve already consumed my 2nd Twilight ticket in gateway and the line of people inside and outside the cinema is impressive!

that’s my first time to see lots of people hovering to get a ticket and it was like premier night all over again. I quietly gasped when I entered the darkened cinema to see the seats ALL FILLED UP! There were literally girls from high school to college to yuppies. If in Shangrila the audience squealed, in Gateway, they scream!

I couldn’t contain my laughter and ‘OMGs’ eventhough I’m watching it alone, because that crowd is so far the craziest and noisiest moviegoers I’ve ever been with! Its like watching a concert instead of a movie! So, just to share, here are the scenes which they literally screamed at:

- just like from the previous post, the first dialogue of Bella about her death

- Jacob Black’s entrance together with Billy

- the Cullens and the Hales’ first appearance in the cafeteria

- Edward’s first appearance in the cafeteria (i still think the make-up is hilarious)

- first appearance of Carlisle

- The kiss

- when Edward and Bella walked to school togeher, “I’m going to hell anyways” (Edward is hot there!)

Eugh…I can’t remember the rest. Aside from screams, it seems like Twilight became more of a comedy than the mushy romantic flick we’ve all expected from the book. For the second time, I was laughing my ass off for Jasper! and for Edward who was ’sleeping’ at the hospital!

They’re right. You maybe disappointed when you watch the film for the first time but you’re going to appreciate it the second time around. Though the make-up was really bad, I began to appreciate Rob’s acting (except for the Biology scene and the one where Carlisle told him to stop sucking Bella’s blood). HOWEVER, Kristen Stewart sadly, still did not improve in my opinion. She has this weird thing going on with her head. She was like shaking it whenever she talks. I’m sorry but I don’t think she did well in the film. Though I like that she put some spunk into Bella’s character but her voice is sooooooooooooo MONOTONOUS and bland. When Edward glittered in the sun, she said “you’re beautiful” but it sounded so lame. What is supposed to be a romantic and touching scene at the hospital where she is telling Edward “Don’t leave”, people actually LAUGHED when she sputtered and stuttered her words. Hay, I laughed as well, but it made me sad because I think…she messed that scene up.

I have high expectations for the sequel. Since the movie earned so well, hope the people in-charge should think it over. Better effects and better acting workshop esp. for Bella. Hee…this might be too mean already.

There.

As insane may this sound, I might be watching it again for the third time. HAHAHA!

Twilight, finally!

The wait was over!

Good god, the wait was excruciatingly long and I was suppose to watch it on the showing date itself (on the 26th) and already bought a ticket. however, two of my co-armies (Obachan and Chan) insisted on watching at the premier night! The hell, i bought another ticket and watched it anyways because I couldn’t contain my excitement!

So we were at the Shangrila cinema and saw a massive population of teen girls. It was expected and we scanned the eager teens while we line-up for popcorn. What happened next, Bella was saying her first dialogue regarding death and squeals erupted inside the cinema! To be honest, we were laughing our asses off because of the reaction but we shut our traps when Edward entered the cafeteria. Then, we shamelessly joined the squealings (heee!). BUT our squeals turned into howls of laughter because the make-up was really bad.

Rob Pattinson is a great actor however, his make-up as a vampire is totally wrong. I don’t know, maybe it’s the cinematography? The foundation on their faces suck  and it makes you think, “hmmm…vampires do shave?” (Rob’s stubbles on his chin are not covered…hahahaha!)

Edward’s reaction in Biology class was a surprise for us. We have mixed emotions regarding on how he instantly covered his nose the moment he smelled Bella’s scent around the room. He looked like he was about to vomit instead of restraining himself not to eat a delicious cheesecake. Maybe because we’re still faithful to the details of the book. I don’t know.

Next, the kiss was hot! As Obachan said Bella was a bombshell!

The baseball game was another highlight as well.

Catherine made the characters really cool and Bella’s classmates have their own appeal. I like the fact that this movie has an indie vibe to it and the fight scenes were done pretty good.

and the crowd’s favorite is actually….James. Chan was actually anticipating for him and lots of the girls squealed for him as well.  Yep, he’s hot and bad.

Sigh. What about the other ticket? I’m still going to watch it today, hehehe! and I’m excited once again just like last night.

Outie!

because…i lack sleep.

apparently, i’m running out of words to write for a paper that’s why I decided to drip some of thoughts on my blog instead.

again, i really can’t wait for twilight…but i guess i won’t dwell on that one for now…

hmmm…what to write??? i will refrain to whine, i will focus on the dream whether or not it happens…hmm…i think Daniel Craig is oozing with charms…haha, i watched Quantum last night and that’s the first time i saw Mr. Craig as James Bond. Great! No sex scene! I mean, i did not say it in a sarcastic tone but you know, the 007 agent has been known for his numerous escapades. I like this James Bond now. Suave and slick but the charms are still there! More brutal, a lot of internal issues and the way he kill is very graceful.

oooookay…i think i should go and eat lunch then work on my paper.
